Steel locking nuts are used in bolted joints where the nut needs to resist unintended loosening, for example under vibration or dynamic loading. The locking function creates resistance to rotation and helps the nut maintain its position in the joint. Nylon insert lock nuts generate the locking effect through friction between the nylon insert and the screw thread, while all-metal lock nuts use a mechanically deformed locking section to provide the locking effect without a polymer insert.
